With That Out of the Way...

Anthony Smith, see above. Like I mentioned in the game thread, Smith gave up two ginormous plays and that looked like it took a lot out of the Steelers. I don't care so much about the fact that he was making guarantees earlier this week -- this is football, not an accounting seminar in Des Moines, people talk shit for a living -- but I wouldn't mind him doing his job during the game.

Also, anybody still want Smith in the lineup over Ryan Clark? As Phil Simms pointed out (in between taking the lint brush to his sweater vest), the Pats' looked like they were going after the safeties; not because of dopey mid-week comments, but because the Steelers were without Clark and Polamalu. That's kind of a big loss.

Bright spots: Ben Roethlisberger continues to deserve to be in the top-5 QBs conversation; Willie Parker's therapist had a breakthrough last week; and the offensive line looked pretty spiffy, relatively speaking. But hey, like Bill Parcells says: you are what your record says you are. And as long as I'm throwing out tired quotes, let me go with a favorite: Rod Woodson ain't walkin' through that door. Anthony Smith needs to get his head out of ass, concentrate on avoiding dumb mistakes, and get ready for the Jags.

Props to the Pats, who are damn near unstoppable (PS - I still hate you). There are three weeks to go in the season and Sunday's game counts just as much as this one.

And one final tired quote, this one courtesy of Bill Cowher, just for shiggles: it is what it is.
