Even more on Rivers
In today's Charlotte Observer there is a story about where Philip Rivers might go in the first round. Nothing new in terms of how Rivers might do as a pro, but here is a list of teams interested in him:
SAN DIEGO (1): Chargers might trade down to take Rivers
N.Y. GIANTS (4): Trading up to pick Eli Manning?
CLEVELAND (7): Coach Butch Davis was in Raleigh on Monday
PITTSBURGH (11): Might pick Ben Roethlisberger instead
BUFFALO (13): Could groom Rivers to replace aging Drew Bledsoe
SAN FRANCISCO (16): Needs insurance with Tim Rattay as its starter
MIAMI (20): Rivers could be a Dan Marino clone
GREEN BAY (25): Rivers could be their to Brett Favre's legacy
It still looks like there's a chance Rivers may not be around at 11. If that's the case -- and the Steelers decide to draft a CB or OT, they should also give Tommy Maddox a raise -- even if it's an incentive-laden one -- because he will be a big part of any success the Steelers enjoy in 2004.
