Random Free Agent Thread

Update: Gee, I don't know, maybe it might make things a bit easier to follow if I include links to the AFC and NFC free agent signings ... so here they are (or just go here for the latest from Adam Schefter).

I was just going to make this a comment in the previous post, but I figured I might as well put it here, along with thoughts from Israel and Eric.

First things first: the Browns signed LeCharles Bentely and Kevin Shaffer. Of course this was after they announced they signed David Givens and Dave Zastudil. Except, well, they didn't really sign either of those guys. Apparently, it was a hoax. Only in Cleveland. Either way, let's get to it:
Looks like "Casey Hampton vs LeCharles Bentley" will be a standard on match-up reports for the next few years.

Israel, that's exactly what i thought when i heard about the browns signing him.

Additionally:

"Len Pasquarelli, of ESPN.com, reports the St. Louis Rams have signed free agent S Corey Chavous (Vikings) to a five-year contract. Complete financial terms were not disclosed, but he will average about $4 million a year for the first three years of the contract. Counting bonuses and base salary, Chavous' compensation for the 2006 season will be between $6 million and $7 million."

If that is the safety deal that sets the market for hope, well, it's been nice knowing you chris.

- Eric
I wonder if Chavous' big deal will actually make it harder for Hope to get his big payday. I guess it depends on how many teams feel like Hope is a marked upgrade over the status quo, or what the draft prospects have to offer.

... Also, the Washington Post is reporting that Randle El was on Redskin One today to pay a visit to Dear Leader Snyder. I'm guessing we've got a Roach Motel situation on our hands here.

... And in other news, the Ravens have taken on stranglehold on last place in the AFC North:
The Ravens have lost two starting defensive linemen on the first day of free agency.

Nose tackle Maake Kemoeatu agreed in principle with the Carolina Panthers and defensive end Tony Weaver reached a deal with the Houston Texans.

Kemoeatu, who was considered the Ravens' top priority, will sign a five-year, $23 million deal which includes $8 million in bonuses. Weaver is expected to receive $13 million in guaranteed money.
I'm sure there will be more later.
