The Bad Guys Won
Jeff Pearlman has a new book coming out about the 1986 Mets. And while that ain't necessarily great news if you're a Sox fan, he takes a look at how baseball was better back then, in a time before skyrocketing salaries and rampant steroid usage seemed to steal all the headlines. The book also covers what exactly went wrong for the Red Sox in '86 (other than the obvious fact that Buckner missed the groundball). In particular:
* Why John McNamara is infinitely more at fault than Bill Buckner
* The idiotic antics of "Oil Can" Boyd during Game 6 of the Series
* Calvin Schiraldi's wavering confidence during Game 6
